Laleh

Laleh Osmany
Pastel, 12 in. x 16 in.

I started this website featuring my series of Afghan women. I suspect I'll always have one of them included in the Tinfoil Gallery to remind me of so much.

For each of them I noted their significance to Afghanistan's contemporary history. This is Laleh.

Update: Taliban leader Haibatullah Akhundzada recently ordered women to cover their faces in public or else their closest male relative would face job termination or prison. Activist for #WhereIsMyName

This initiative began in 2017 and is still fighting for the basic right for Afghan women to be identified by their own names.
